You Are Invited to the 21st International Bicycle Design Competition Award Ceremony
and the 2017 IBDC Event Series
The 21st International Bicycle Design Competition (IBDC) is organized by the Department of Industrial Technology, Ministry of Economic Affairs (DoIT, MOEA) with the help of the Cycling and Health Tech Industry R&D Center (CHC). The competition is set to start on Wednesday, March 22, 2017—the first day of the 2017 Taipei International Cycle Show. The awards ceremony will be held in Nangang Exhibition Center, hall number 402, where we invite representatives from Taiwan’s bicycle industry, the Department of Industrial Technology, Ministry of Economic Affairs (DoIT, MOEA), and researchers from all over the world to witness the announcement and presentation of 21 awards for bicycles, bike components and accessories. This year’s submissions display an integration of traditional bike components with digitized modules, a reflection of the “smart” trend of fully incorporating the bike into a person’s lifestyle, increasing its utility and convenience. In addition to the awards ceremony, the IBDC Event Series includes a special 2017 International Bicycle Innovative Design Symposium, and IBDC Utility Bike Innovative Design Trend Forum to serve as platforms for promoting new bicycle designs and cultivating designers’ new ideas. These platforms can serve as the springboard for the limitless potential of research in the bicycle industry, and for increasing the innovative services and added value of the Taiwanese Bike Industry.
2017 International Bicycle Innovative Design Symposium has invited award-winning designers and the judges from this year’s competition to share their design inspirations and experience. The roundtable has also invited the event’s business sponsors and professors in the field of industrial design from different universities to join. Through the exchange of experience from the roundtable’s designers, and with the input of professors and business professionals, guests can better understand the thinking behind the designs and learn about the designers’ processes, from design to production.
The IBDC Utility Bike Innovative Design Trend Forum 2017 will start on the morning of Thursday, March 23. Ros Lee, CEO of Hondao Senior Citizen’s Welfare Foundation; Cesare Sun, a designer from domestic bicycle company GEARLAB; and Chen Chun-Chih, a professor from Department of Industry Design, National Kaohsiung Normal University, are among those who have been invited to speak at the forum about facing the challenges of an aging population in Taiwan and how to remedy this issue, and the future of the market. These experts will analyze the design trends and innovations of the Utility Bike from a variety of perspectives, and engage the audience in discussion. Taiwan Bicycle Industry Standards (TBIS) presentation will take place in the same hall that afternoon. The presentation collaborators hope to establish the physical properties of selected technologies and evaluate those technologies’ capabilities, providing shared units of industrial technology and R&D to serve as points of reference for bicycle development and advances in performance.
With an extraordinary 21-year history, the International Bicycle Design Competition seeks to cultivate original bicycle designs from around the world, inspire international design trends, and reinvent bike products, using these advances as the basis for further connecting prominent designers and potential bicycle manufacturers. In bringing together relevant designs, innovation trends, and the like, the competition can create a chain of win-win scenarios for both the industry and the designers. The IBDC hopes to become the center of global bike innovation and to illustrate the future of the bike industry and strengthen the competitiveness of Taiwanese industries, simultaneously emphasizing the competition’s core values.
